Find historic editions of the Gairloch & District Times here.
The Gairloch and District Times has been publishing continuously since 1978. The ethos of the paper has changed little over all these years. Here's a quote from the editorial in the first edition:
"For a long time now it has been apparent that there has been a lack of means of conveying the happenings of Gairloch and District to its residents and a few of us have got together to try and remedy this situation.
"The success of this venture depends on you, and we, the Editorial Staff, look forward to receiving news items, Weddings, Births and Deaths, small ads, articles for sale and wanted; reports of local committee meetings will be particularly valuable. You let us have the article and we'll print it free. Nothing is too trivial to print, but the decision will rest with the Editors."
"We hope to to include a page of commercial adverts for regular contributors at prices to be agreed. Comments and correspondence will be welcome."
If you want to make a submission to the paper for the next edition, you can do it here.
The entire archive of the paper has been digitised and it makes for a fascinating record of the local area. In 1978, the Central Mini Market in Strath was selling a can of Pepsi for 31p. The paper itself cost just 3p.
Today, our paying subscribers must pay a little bit more. But they also get full access to these archives.
You can access every edition published from the first one in 1978 to all those from 2023 here. More recent editions can be find on our main website.
