π‘ Energy and fuel prices keep rising thanks to the conflict in Iran. This week details of the Scottish scheme for supporting people who rely on oil or LPG to heat their home were revealed. Key things to know:
- The scheme has a Β£10m budget. It allows households that qualify to apply every three months for a grant of Β£300 towards home heating costs. The scheme will run until September 30, or until the cash runs out.
- If you receive a qualifying low-income benefit you will automatically qualify for a grant. But there are other "discretionary" criteria that mean you may still qualify for a grant. You might qualify for a grant if you have particular health conditions, live in a rural area, are older, in financial hardship, or are dealing with a major life event. You will need to supply evidence to support your claim.
- The cash will usually be paid directly to your oil or LPG supplier.
- You can't apply for a grant to cover fuel purchased before April 1, 2026.
